The “Orange Jumpsuit” project is a body of musical work written, recorded and performed by Hip Hop artist/Poet Carrio Xanders. The album is inspired by real life experiences and it addresses topics surrounding incarcerations, injustice, the prison system, policing, rehabilitation of ex-convicts, racism as well as mental illness. Although based on a true story, it contains fictitious elements and characters, hence the subtitle “Fiction + Real”.

In an effort to make it a balanced project, the author has written tracks from perspectives that suggest that not everyone in prison is unjustly sentenced, but rather that some are serving real time for legitimate crimes that they have committed. This is however not an excuse for the horrific conditions in the prison system which include terrible living conditions of prisons, the dehumanization of inmates, the indifference and hostility of prison wardens, lack of safety and security for inmates, prison violence and many more.

Carrio is quoted saying “England and Wales sent more people to prison each year than any other country in western Europe; more than Germany, the second-highest—which has a significantly larger national population.”

The funds generated from the sales of the album is donated to charity under the supervision of Switchback, a non-profit organization based in London working in the rehabilitation of ex-inmates and provision of free legal services for inmates who cannot afford legal representation.

ORANGE JUMPSUIT BY CARRIO XANDERS was officially released on October 1, 2020. The conscious and timeless music it is, makes it one that definitely lasts forever.
